InfoCenter ::: All you need to know about EQ2

Postby Debillus » Tue Nov 28, 2006 12:46 pm

Everybody should have this installed. It contains pretty much every single bit of general information, and a hell of a lot specific information about spells, quests, tradeskilling, harvesting, etc.

The InfoCenter UI modification resides completely outside of EQ2's own UI, so no gameupdate should ever be able to break or incapacitate this addition. A lot of people relies solemnly on the standard UI for that same reason, but have no excuse for not installing this add on.

The InfoCenter UI is update very regulary (once or twice a month) so make sure to update the window on a recurring basis if you wanna stay up to speed.

Here's a quick guide on how to get the thing installed.

1. Go to EQ2Interface.com

2. Register an account or log in,

3. Follow this link, or browse through the interface section if the link doesnt work

4. Download, unpack and move the files into your custom UI directory *)

5. In game, create a macro looking like this

6. Drag the macro to a hotbar slot and click it.

*) Custom UI Folder
If you don't already have a custom UI directory, do one of the following :

1. Download and install the EQ2Map project :
This will create a folder called EQ2MAP in the UI subfolder.
- Copy the mentioned files into the \UI\EQ2MAP folder.

2. Do it yourself :
- Create your own folder in the UI subfolder. (F.ex. MYUI)
- Copy the files into this new folder. Then create a file called EQ2.INI in the EQ2 install folder. Edit this file to contain the following

Code: Select all
cl_ui_skinname MYUI
cl_ui_subdir UI/

- Obviously you need to replace the MYUI label with whatever else you chose to call your folder.

For a newb like me, that looks very useful. Thanks Deb.

On the subject of UIs, I'd appreciate seeing samples of what you're all using. Are there any EQ1 style UIs available? I really hate the default chat window that allows you either to chat or to see combat stuff but not both. I expect there's a way around this. I'd also appreciate URLs for any that I can download.

Conrad,

Goto http://www.eq2interface.com....register and browse for Profit UI....

There are great screenshots of it there and yes it separates the chat windows very well. It also organizes many other aspects very well.

Of course there are many other UIs and augments out there like the EQ2Map pack....don't play without it.

Thanks for that Arachis. One slight confusion here. I installed EQ2Map first and now have an eq2.ini containing

cl_ui_skinname EQ2MAP
cl_ui_subdir UI/

The instruction for adding a new UI tell you to use the skinname line for the UI. Surely this conflicts? Do I put all the files in the map folder into the UI folder?

The EQ2Map directory should be in the specific UI folder in question, for me it is under my Profit UI folder...Did you use the Automated EQ2Map install that autoupdates? It puts it all where it needs to be if you did.

I did, but I installed the maps before the UI. I backed out of everything and did it the other way round and it's all working fine now. Thanks :)
