November 12th was Exploding Whale Day.

In November 1970, the corpse of a whale washed up on a beach near Florence, Oregon (my home state). It was too big to get rid of in any other way, so on the 12th the Oregon Highway Division blew it up. Some people have said it was an urban legend, but it isn't. Here's the video.

If the person in charge that day, actualy had killed himeself with a falling chunk of whale, he'd be a sure candidate for a Darwin Award.

Well, there was that car that got kinda crushed, so maybe that was his car.
