Until the past hundred (or so years), people got married at 18ish. Some younger based on location (or era... about 500 years ago, I believe most women would marry for the first time around the age of 14.)
For eons, gifts and money were always given by the groom's family to the bride's family in exchange for her... pretty much making the bride a commodity.
Marrying for love is a recent concept.
It was common for significantly older men to marry younger girls/women. The younger the girl, the more likely she was a virgin, the healthier she was, and she was more capable of producing multiple children. In return, his age guaranteed financial stability (hopefully).
...Not that any of that makes the website a good thing. We all have more modern concepts on marriage, but if the internet was around 150/300/500 years ago, websites like that would have been common.
But yeah, that's a sick sick sick site and I hope it is fake. If it is real, I am surprised no one has tried to get it closed down based on the fact that those girls are essentially being sold.
